In Stockholm: Kungsträdgården

Kungsträdgården is a really pretty park in central Stockholm. It’s a beautiful tree lined strip with seating, a pretty green areas and fountains. This is a busy area with couples, groups of friends, lots of dog walkers and is generally filled with mirth! PhoebeGill160714671Take note during the summer from April 23rd to August 31st there is a military foot parade that happens every day, they walk from the Army museum and will pass the Kungsträdgården at around 12pm. It’s similar to the changing of the guards in London. It is a great thing to see. In other months of the year it only happens on specific days so check before you go to Stockholm or just be surprised like I was.  PhoebeGill160714208There is a Tbana stop just beside this area and the tram lines are at the top of the park so it’s really easy to get to. It has lots of outdoor eating and cafes so it’s a perfect place to stop at. There is also a stage area where outdoor concerts are held in Summer and in Winter there is an ice rink.

You definitely have to check it out when you go to Stockholm. It was such a pretty area to relax and take in the sunshine!

In Stockholm: Hop On Hop Off Tours

I got a Stockholm pass in a goodie bag from TBex, thanks TBex,  I looked up what it can do and I was really pleasantly surprised. Amongst a lot of other things, you are able to do unlimited Hop On Hop Off Tours, both bus and boat. So I took full advantage. PhoebeGill160714036Over my three day stay I took 3 bus tours and 2 boats. (Be careful though, Stockholm VIP pass only lasts for two days) The bus is great, it has a removable roof because of the tram lines above but it means that if it rains you aren’t getting soaked. It has the audio tour and free headphones so you will be able to learn about the city. I have to say though, every time I sat at the window I would have someone reach over me and touch my knee to get to the audio box. I would say to them do you want me to do it but they just ignored me and reached over. Ugh it makes me shiver just thinking about it. Don’t touch people you don’t know. PhoebeGill160714668I really recommend it though. You get to go to districts that you wouldn’t normally go to and it gives you lots of information. I wouldn’t know the term brackish water if I didn’t take the bus! (It is said a lot on the tours) The views from the bus are gorgeous, Stockholm is so beautiful and this tour gives you such a nice vantage point! PhoebeGill160714340I really think everyone should see Stockholm by boat, any city by the water just has such a gorgeous feel to it. You would see couples on little motor boats, tour boats, sail boats, big ships. Seeing Stockholm by water gives you a different view of the city and gives you more information the bus doesn’t give. It was really nice being a tourist for a change. Usually I get out of cities to explore but it was a lot of fun to just relax and take my time to see Stockholm properly. PhoebeGill160716554The boat stops in some great areas like The Vasa museum, The Royal Palace and other wonderful areas you have to explore. I fell in love with the buildings by the water and how the city wasn’t impacted with modern sky scrapers.  PhoebeGill160716276With the Stockholm Pass you are permitted to go on the green busses and boats. If you don’t have the pass then you can buy a one (€32) or two (€37) day bus ticket. You can also get a bus, boat combo ticket, one day (€42) and two day (€48). If you want more information check it out herePhoebeGill160716106

Do you do hop on hop off tours when you travel? Which one was your favourite?

In Dublin: Blas Cafe

Have a fact before we start the post. A Blaa is a flowery roll/bap from county Waterford in Ireland. It is usually had a breakfast time with your usual fry. Typically I would have one if I was down for a family funeral. They are a simple yet glorious thing.

When I heard that we would be having our InstaMeet here is was immediately intrigued and excited to try somewhere new. Bla’s Cafe is located  on King’s Inn Street, at the side of Cineworld cinema off Parnell Street. It has a very independent feel about it, it’s the perfect location for Sunday brunch. PhoebeGill160709327So as my control meal I always choose the eggs Benedict, unfortunately it was way too hot to test their coffee but the eggs Benedict was perfect. The eggs were runny, the ham was delicious, there was just enough sauce, which is crucial to the dish and there were roast potatoes that went perfectly with it. They also provide free water which is alway a plus. Check out their menu here. PhoebeGill160709307Blas is located in The Chocolate Factory, which is a space for people to sell their creations, there is jewelry, cakes, art work, crafts and other lovely things. It’s a real collective shared space and has such a nice feel to it. I definitely recommend you check this place out and it is so close to the cinema you could grab brunch and a movie to make the perfect weekend outing. PhoebeGill160709342A big thanks to Ramona for making this wonderful gathering happen. Check out her photos they are amazing!

In London: The Sky Garden

Before this trip I had never even heard of The Sky Garden but I can tell you right now I was missing out, it is beautiful! This mini botanical garden area is 155m up in the air, with 360 degrees panoramic views and spots to eat, you could spend the entire day up here! PhoebeGill160509210The first amazing thing about this place is that it is free to get into! Free! All you have to do is book in at a certain time, there are limited spaces available each day. Check out ticket times and options here. Although the ticket permits you in for an hour at a time, there is also a restaurant and a bar so you can be fed and watered, if you want to experience the Sky Garden for longer.  PhoebeGill160509083In the main section of the Sky Garden there is the Sky Pod where you can have coffee and cake or I choose some delicious lemonade. It is going to be a bit more expensive but it’s such a nice atmosphere. With the plants and the flowers it gives this fresh air feeling. Also I have allergies and I can assure you you I didn’t sneeze once, which was great. Now lets talk about the view. PhoebeGill160509073As you are 155 meters up there needs to be safety procedures so there are thick panes of glass for you to look out at. This does mean that they are a bit grubby and there will be reflections but it is still an amazing view. Watching busy London from above is really interesting, watching boats go by and cars go over the bridge, it’s such a great vantage point to watch the city. PhoebeGill160509089I definitely recommend this gorgeous place, check out the website and book a ticket. Also thanks to the couple who perfectly fit in this image. Hope you’re well! Thanks so much for reading!

In London: Great Eats You Have To Try!

First off lets talk about The Breakfast Club. I have heard great things about this place for about two years now and I have been desperate to try it. Thankfully this place was so close to where I was staying in London. PhoebeGill160509053I usually test a place by their eggs Benedict and a flat white coffee. They are my staples if I go out to breakfast. I threw in some breakfast potatoes and a freshly squeezed orange juice to my order to make this breakfast the ultimate indulgence! It was so tasty and everything you could want to start your day of exploring and walking around London. Definitely recommend. Check out their locations here. They are open late so you can have breakfast whenever you like! Perfection. This breakfast will set you back a bit, this food was just under £20 but I went all out, you can find cheaper items on the menu. PhoebeGill160509170Now lets talk about the second place that was around the corner from where I was staying that I loved. Pizza Union! Ah if only they were in Ireland. It is a proper Italian style pizza place with a big stone fire pizza oven. It has a quick service and delicious food. PhoebeGill160509287I recommend you get what’s in the picture, a delicious pepperoni pizza, their garlic dip, which is amazing for £1 extra and a Limonata, which, in my opinion is the best drink on earth! This meal will cost you under £10 and you will be full and happy. There are only two locations check where they are at here.

Note: Both of these locations are in Spittlefields.

Usually I snack when I travel so these food posts are few and far between but I wanted to share these two places with you because I have been thinking about them since I’ve been home. How much do you want pizza right now?

In London: The Tower of London

On a rainy day in London I went to the Tower of London, I had never been before and only ever got a small glimpse of it as I was rushing to the airport. As I had planned so many new things to do during this trip, this had to be added, it’s an iconic tourist attraction.PhoebeGill160510206I think the rain gave the Tower a fitting atmosphere. This medieval fortress is very impressive and has got really interesting history around it. I am not going to do it justice but there are lots of historic elements in each building that showcases the stories of the past. Some buildings of interest are the torture section which really does baffle the mind, there is the armour section that has wonderfully intricate pieces and of course the building where the crown jewels are kept. Which is what everyone really wants to see. PhoebeGill160510229Walking into the crown jewel building, you definitely get a sense of pride, it is very much ‘yay Britain’. There is lots of fanfare and video, bigging up the royal family and Great Britain in general. It is a bit of fun and it’s interesting to see where some of the pieces came (were taken) from.  I saw Queen Victoria’s tiny crown, that is a interesting piece. All in all it’s very opulent and lots of sparkles. It’s great craftsmanship and they are really gorgeous treasures.PhoebeGill160510217My favourite story from this site is the Ravens, it was said at least 6 ravens must be in the grounds at all times or the fortress will fall. Reminds me of Game of Thrones, I really enjoy the superstitions of the past. It was very interesting learning and I definitely recommend you go and see it! PhoebeGill160510238I bought my ticket online so it was a little bit cheaper, it was £21. It is a little pricy but you can also group purchase tickets for different attractions and you can go to onto discounted ticket sites but I don’t know how reputable they are. You can buy your tickets from the official website here!

Have you visited the Tower of London, what was your favourite part? Thank you for reading!
